Historical Development of the Master of Psychology Program at UNY

The Master of Psychology Program at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) represents a foundational milestone in the development of psychology education at UNY and was established prior to the Undergraduate Psychology Program.

2014

Establishment of the Master of Psychology Program

The Master of Psychology Program was officially established on 17 October 2014 based on a Decree of the Ministry of Education and Culture. During its initial phase, the program was administered by the Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, in accordance with the prevailing policy on the management of master’s programs at that time.

2015

Establishment of the Undergraduate Psychology Program

On 20 March 2015, the Undergraduate Psychology Program was established under the Faculty of Education (FIP) UNY. Subsequently, on 12 June 2015, through a Rector’s Decree, the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Education, UNY was formally established. During this period, the undergraduate and master’s programs were administered under different academic units, namely the Faculty of Education and the Graduate School.

2023

Institutional Integration into the Faculty

In January 2023, the Master of Psychology Program was officially transferred from the Graduate School and integrated into the Faculty of Education, Psychology, and Guidance (FIPP) UNY. This transition was implemented in accordance with institutional regulations stipulating that master’s programs must be managed by the same faculty as their corresponding undergraduate programs.

2025

Establishment of the Faculty of Psychology UNY

In May 2025, the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, was officially established and became the academic home for both the Undergraduate and Master of Psychology Programs in an integrated and autonomous faculty structure.
